Quality Inspector – Aerospace – Precision Engineering –  Greater Manchester

 White Label are recruiting on behalf of an Aerospace business based in Greater Manchester in their search for a Quality Inspector.

 THE JOB:

  • Ensure that all inspection activities within the site are carried out to process.
  • Provide technical support and liaison between quality, engineering and production departments.
  • Have knowledge of CMM machines and inspection
  • Full understanding for interpreting drawings, standards and specifications within the department
  • Ensure competency for measurement of components related to job criteria for the department
  • Verify that only approved parts and materials have been used; check batch card against material certificates located in Final View or Purchasing Department
  • Ensure processes are carried out correctly in particular using batch card disciplines, NCR process and use of calibrated equipment
  • Ensure issue of drawings and specifications conforms to the batch card
  • Maintain the standard of inspection, e.g., conformance of all details, sub-assemblies, etc
  • Documentation at each inspection stage is endorsed as “acceptable”, “reject”, “needing rework”, or “concession”, and to identify by labelling and a pink batch card when applicable
  • All drawing and CMM inspection requirements are satisfied
  • Identification marks are legible and conform to the drawing requirements
  • Be a stamp holder by maintaining the standards acceptable to the Quality Manager and report the loss of inspection stamp immediately.
  • Be subject to surveillance checks by the Quality Manager or his/her nominee
  • Capable of performing the inspection of work assigned in accordance with the duties of “authorised inspector”
  • Maintains a high degree of proficiency and exercises good judgment in performance within scope of responsibility

Organise, prioritise and schedule all inspection processes and activities to meet production/customer deadlines.

  • Ensure an effective handover is carried out at the beginning / end of each shift, assuring that good Quality related information is communicated
  • Ensure that own knowledge and understanding of inspection techniques is kept up to date through continued self development.
  • To provide and administer a professional and efficient service to all internal and external customers
  • Maintain working relationships with colleagues by adopting suitable behaviour and setting high personal standards, which assist to persuade and promote performance from all the team
  • Demonstrate commitment to all Quality related procedures and issues within the department
  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established company safety rules and regulations to maintain safe, 5s and clean work area.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Apprentice Trained Engineer
  • Ability to read & understand Mechanical Engineering drawings
  • Experience working within the Aerospace sector
  • Experience using manual measuring equipment using Vernier’s, Calipers, Gauges, Micrometres etc.
  • CMM operating experience would be an advantage not essential

WORKING HOURS & RATE OF PAY:

You will be required to either work on permanent days or on rational day shifts,

 Days:  Monday to Friday 7:45 – 16:30 (12:21 on a Friday) £12.99- £13.41 PER HOUR

Rotational day shift is 7-7:30pm rotating from Sun/Mon/Tues then Wed/Thur/Fri (2 weeks of one then swap to two weeks of other) £12.99- £13.41 PER HOUR PLUS 1/3 SHIFT ALLOWANCE

Job Role:

  • As Quality Manager you will report the Operations Director with 1 direct report of a Quality Inspector
  • Responsible for the management and maintenance of the company’s QMS. Also continual review and updating of this to meet the business needs and any changes within the ISO specification
  • Undertake a strategy review for supplier quality assurance (SQA) that ensures a continuous improvement approach for supplier performance on Quality, Cost and Delivery
  • Maintain and review our Quality policy and procedures to ensure our products perform to the highest standard, exceeding customer expectations, whilst achieving best in class, industry standard internal and external DPPM rates, ensuring that the cost of quality (COQ), and cost of poor quality (COPQ) are minimised
  • Responsible for implementing quality control processes that ensure all products meet the defined dimensional, and aesthetic standards.
  • Maintain the calibration system ensuring all equipment being used is properly calibrated
  • Assist with new product introduction and product improvement projects as required
  • Develop a strategy for supplier quality assurance (SQA) that ensures a continuous improvement approach for supplier performance on quality, cost and delivery. Liaise with suppliers for new product introduction.
  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and monitoring, audit processes and plans that ensure our policies and procedures are adhered to and effectively meet our business goals.
  • Ensure the continuous improvement philosophy is maintained through quality throughout the business, and support continuous improvement activities that deliver bottom line improvements
  • Achievement of business targets and objectives through KPI’s and QOS processes
  • To develop suitable quality KPI’s that provide the necessary data to manage and develop our people and processes
  • Provide feedback to other areas of business, with regards to impact from your Department
  • Review budgets and participate in department and functional business planning activities as required
  • Responsible for improving and maintaining our non-compliance processes, for Customers, Suppliers, and internally.

Experience Required

  • Previous Quality management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing with a variety of different processes and working to tight tolerances.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of ISO9001 (Knowledge of TS16949 would be advantageous)
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience of supplier quality assurance including supplier audits and the 8D process
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of Manufacturing processes for metal forming/working of Aluminium & Steel

  • Inspection and test of Incoming, Internal & External products/materials including Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIRs).
  • Inspection and testing of New and existing manufactured parts and Customer returns using a variety of inspection and testing equipment
  • Analyse non-conforming products, by utilising root cause analysis and identify potential quality problems and assist in determining the permanent corrective actions and improvements.
  • Perform internal Quality & Housekeeping audits to confirm compliance with the Quality Management System. Adopting “best practice” principles to maintain lean and good house-keeping practices 5S.
  • Assist in data collection for capability and trend analysis of Internal and Supplier non-conformances as well as Customer returns.
  • Assist in preparing all Product approval documentation as required by OEM customers
  • Manage and maintain the calibration system.

Skills: Essential

  • Experience within a similar quality role within manufacturing in a precision engineering environment.
  • Must have experience in using the following inspection and testing equipment – hardness testers, Micrometres, Vernier callipers, gauges.
  • Sound working knowledge of quality ISO 9001 and lean principles.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.

Are you an experienced Quality Manager looking for a new challenging role within the mechanical engineering sector?

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Operations Director you will be responsible for the leadership of the quality function across multi sites.

The key accountabilities of this position are:

  • Lead and be responsible for Quality of Product delivered from multi site factories.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the Customer Issues process to satisfactory conclusion.
  • Responsible for driving root cause analysis and correction of Quality issues, managing and reporting measurables for corrective actions associated with internal performance, supplier performance and interface with customer concerns. This entails guiding and directing site support efforts and communicating to management & staff at all levels of the organisation as required.
  • Maintain and Monitor the Integrated Management System and associated processes & procedures through liaison with all areas of the business. Work alongside internal and external parties in driving improvements to product, process and business performance, ensuring ISO9001:2015 and ISO 14001 principles and compliance is maintained. Ensure other additional accreditations (iECx, LPC, EN1090 and FM/UL)
  • Monitoring performance of the site Quality, EH&S programmes and progress of continuous improvement initiatives and assigned projects. Ensuring alignment and integration of the Quality, H&S and Environmental System requirements within the business, including sharing of best practices and coordination of any related issues.
  • Lead and maintain the internal audit program, conducting Product & Process audits and tracking associated actions to closure.
  • Assist in the timely response to all external audit recommendations, following discussions with the stakeholders on implementation timeline.
  • Support the Management Review process in conjunction with the Leadership Team.
  • Collate and report all associated KPI metrics in order to track and report status and progress of performance for the processes under the care of the Quality.
  • Act as key driver for all supplier quality related issues, carry out goods inward inspections, monitor and report incoming goods quality performance. Issue and track supplier corrective actions in a timely manner ensuring root cause analysis is key focus.
  • Support the Manufacturing Manager in all aspects of H&S and Environmental systems
  • Act as key driver in developing H&S procedures and guidelines and merging H&S requirements into the integrated management system and day to day business activities.
  • Lead the emergency management and fire protection programmes
  • Monitor, track and report on performance. Ensure any changes in legislation are communicated, understood and implemented at all levels.
  • Devise and manage the EHS training programme including participation in the relevant induction sectors for all aspects of the business.
  • Providing technical support and expertise to site safety & environmental compliance issues.
  • Conduct internal H&S risk assessments and audits. Assist in the timely response to all regulatory bodies appropriate audit recommendations, following discussions with the stakeholders on implementation timelines etc.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant Engineering or Manufacturing degree
  • 5 years of Quality Engineering and a minimum of 2 years in Management experience working with engineering, manufacturing and distribution operations in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
  • Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
  • Works effectively in a multi-functional / Cross Functional team environment and operate as part of a self-directed team.
  • Extensive experience working within a manufacturing environment with good quality & engineering grounding
  • Work with manufacturing and operations improving / enhancing performance and efficiency
  • Good working knowledge of implementing and managing Continual Improvement within an organisation and facilitation of CI tools and techniques.
  • Ability & Knowledge of internal auditing.
  • Conversant with applicable industry standards and specifications or at minimum have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings & specifications, and have the ability to perform a variety of inspection functions with minimal supervision.

 The successful candidate will be expected to attend different offices for meetings with occasional overnight stays.

 SALARY

This exciting new opportunity comes with an excellent salary of up to £50,000 depending on the level of experience.
